Chronicle Society Terms of Service

Last updated: 20 August 2026

Welcome to Chronicle Society. These Terms of Service explain the terms that apply when you visit our website, purchase a subscription, or use any of our services.

By using our website or purchasing from Chronicle Society, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully before placing an order.

1. About Chronicle Society

Chronicle Society is an independent history subscription service operated by a small husband-and-wife team.

We create and distribute physical historical publications covering different countries, counties, regions, people, events and themes.

Our publications are created for personal enjoyment, educational purposes and anyone with an interest in history.

2. Using Our Website

You agree to use our website lawfully and responsibly.

You must not:

  • Use our website for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose.

  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our website, systems or accounts.

  • Interfere with or disrupt the operation of our website.

  • Copy, reproduce or commercially exploit our website content without permission.

  • Use automated systems to scrape, reproduce or collect our content without our written permission.

  • Submit false, misleading or fraudulent information when placing an order.

We reserve the right to refuse or restrict access to our website where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect our business, customers or website.

3. Creating an Order

When you place an order through our website, you are making an offer to purchase the relevant product or subscription.

An order confirmation email confirms that we have received your order. It does not necessarily mean that your order has been accepted.

We reserve the right to cancel an order where there is a genuine reason to do so, including where:

  • A product or subscription has been incorrectly priced.

  • There has been an obvious website or technical error.

  • We are unable to fulfil the order.

  • Payment cannot be successfully processed.

  • We reasonably suspect fraudulent or abusive activity.

If we cancel an order after payment has been taken, we will arrange an appropriate refund.

4. Product and Subscription Information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that descriptions, images, prices and other information on our website are accurate.

However, photographs and images are provided for illustrative purposes where appropriate, and colours or appearance may vary depending on your device or screen.

We reserve the right to correct errors, update information and make reasonable changes to products or subscriptions where necessary.

5. Subscription Terms

Where you purchase a recurring Chronicle Society subscription, your subscription will automatically renew according to the billing frequency selected at checkout.

Your payment method will be charged automatically for each renewal period unless you cancel your subscription before the next renewal payment is taken.

You are responsible for ensuring that your payment information remains accurate and up to date.

If payment cannot be collected, we may pause or cancel your subscription.

Multi-month subscriptions will provide the number of issues stated at the time of purchase.

6. Cancelling a Subscription

You may cancel a recurring subscription before your next renewal payment is taken.

Cancellation will prevent future renewal payments but will not normally cancel an issue that has already been paid for.

If you have purchased a multi-month subscription in advance, cancellation of future renewals does not automatically entitle you to a refund for issues that have already been paid for.

Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory cancellation or consumer rights that apply to you.

7. Pricing and Payment

All prices displayed on our website are shown at the applicable rate at the time of purchase.

We reserve the right to change prices for future purchases or subscriptions.

Any price change will not affect an order or subscription period that has already been paid for.

Payments are processed through our chosen payment providers. By providing payment details, you confirm that you are authorised to use the relevant payment method.

8. Delivery

Chronicle Society issues are dispatched on the 15th of each month.

Delivery times vary depending on your location and the postal service used. Dispatch on the 15th does not guarantee delivery on a particular date.

You are responsible for providing an accurate and complete delivery address.

We cannot accept responsibility for delays or failed deliveries caused by incorrect or incomplete information provided by you.

International customers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, import charges or other fees that may be imposed by their country.

9. Returns, Refunds and Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms of Service removes or limits your statutory consumer rights.

Where applicable, you may have a legal right to cancel an online purchase within the relevant statutory cancellation period.

If you wish to exercise a statutory cancellation right, please contact us using the details below.

If an issue arrives damaged or defective, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can investigate the matter and determine the appropriate remedy.

Any refund or replacement will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer law.

10. Our Historical Content

Chronicle Society aims to provide engaging and carefully researched historical content.

However, history can be complex. Sources may disagree, historical records may be incomplete and interpretations can change over time.

Our publications are intended for general educational and entertainment purposes and should not be considered definitive academic or historical references.

We make reasonable efforts to research and verify the information we publish, but we cannot guarantee that every historical statement will be free from error or disagreement.

11. Use of AI

We may use AI-assisted tools as part of the creative process behind Chronicle Society.

This may include the creation or editing of certain images, illustrations or elements of written content.

We aim to use AI responsibly and transparently while continuing to prioritise original research and contributions from historians, researchers, writers, photographers and artists.

Where possible, we aim to work with local artists and historians and support independent creative contributors.

12. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property associated with Chronicle Society, including our:

  • Name and branding

  • Logo and designs

  • Written content

  • Articles and stories

  • Illustrations and images

  • Website content

  • Photography

  • Layouts and publications

  • Marketing materials

is owned by Chronicle Society or used with permission from the relevant rights holder.

You may use your purchased publications for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You must not copy, reproduce, redistribute, publish, sell, modify or commercially exploit our content without our prior written permission.

13. Third-Party Content and Links

Our website or publications may occasionally contain references or links to third-party websites, organisations, sources or services.

These are provided for information or convenience.

We are not responsible for the content, availability, security or practices of third-party websites or services.

Your use of third-party websites is subject to their own terms and policies.

14. Website Availability

We aim to keep our website available and functioning properly, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.

The website may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, updates or circumstances outside our control.

We will not be responsible for losses resulting from temporary website unavailability where such unavailability is outside our reasonable control.

15. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

Subject to this, Chronicle Society will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable at the time you entered into a contract with us.

We will always remain responsible for our obligations under applicable consumer protection law.

16. Events Outside Our Control

We will not be responsible for delays or failure to fulfil our obligations where this results from circumstances outside our reasonable control.

This may include postal disruptions, strikes, severe weather, natural disasters, technical failures, supply issues, government restrictions or other events that could not reasonably have been prevented.

Where such an event occurs, we will make reasonable efforts to minimise any disruption to our customers.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time.

Any updated version will be published on our website with a revised "Last updated" date.

Changes will not affect rights or obligations that have already arisen before the updated terms take effect, except where required by law.

18. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes relating to these Terms or your use of Chronicle Society will be subject to the applicable courts of England and Wales, except where consumer law provides otherwise.
