Chronicle Society Subscription Policy

Last updated: 20 August 2026

Welcome to Chronicle Society.

We are a small, independent history subscription run by a husband-and-wife team with a genuine passion for discovering, researching and sharing fascinating stories from around the world.

By subscribing to Chronicle Society, you agree to the following subscription policy.

1. About Chronicle Society

Chronicle Society is a monthly historical subscription. Each month, members receive a carefully researched collection of historical stories focusing on a particular country, county, region, event, person or theme.

Every issue is created to be something you can enjoy at your own pace, keep, collect and return to.

The subject and contents of each issue will vary. The number, length and specific topics covered may therefore differ from one issue to another.

2. Subscriptions

Chronicle Society subscriptions are available through the subscription options displayed on our website.

Where a subscription is described as a monthly subscription, it will automatically renew at the applicable price until cancelled.

If you choose a multi-month subscription, your membership will cover the number of issues stated at the time of purchase.

Subscription prices are clearly displayed at checkout. We reserve the right to change our subscription prices for future purchases, but any price change will not affect a subscription period that has already been paid for.

3. Payments

Payment is taken when you purchase your subscription.

For recurring monthly subscriptions, payment will automatically be taken using the payment method provided when you subscribed.

If a recurring payment fails, we may attempt to collect the payment again. Your subscription may be paused or cancelled if payment cannot be successfully collected.

4. Cancelling Your Subscription

You can cancel a recurring subscription at any time before your next renewal payment is taken.

Cancelling your subscription will prevent future payments from being taken but will not normally cancel an issue that has already been paid for or dispatched.

If you have purchased a multi-month subscription in advance, cancelling future renewals does not automatically entitle you to a refund for issues that have already been paid for.

Nothing in this policy affects any statutory cancellation rights you may have under applicable consumer law.

5. Delivery

Chronicle Society issues are dispatched on the 15th of each month.

We aim to ensure that every issue is carefully prepared and ready to leave us on this date. Once an issue has been dispatched, delivery times can vary depending on the destination and postal service.

We cannot guarantee a specific delivery date, as delays can occasionally occur after an item has left our care.

Please ensure that your delivery address is correct when placing your order. We cannot be responsible for delays or failed delivery resulting from an incorrect or incomplete address supplied by the customer.

International deliveries may take longer due to international postal services and customs processing.

International customers may also be responsible for customs duties, taxes, import charges or other fees imposed by their country. These charges are not included in the Chronicle Society subscription price unless specifically stated otherwise.

6. Lost or Damaged Issues

We take care when preparing, packing and dispatching every Chronicle Society issue.

If your issue arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible with details of the problem. Where possible, please include photographs of the damaged packaging and contents so that we can investigate.

If your issue has not arrived within a reasonable period following dispatch, please contact us so that we can investigate the delivery and, where appropriate, work with the relevant postal service.

We will always do our best to resolve genuine delivery problems fairly.

7. Returns and Consumer Rights

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory consumer rights.

Where you have a legal right to cancel your purchase, that right will apply in accordance with the applicable law.

If you exercise a statutory right to cancel, you may be required to return the physical issue to us in accordance with the applicable requirements.

If an issue arrives damaged or defective, please contact us so that we can investigate and, where appropriate, arrange a replacement or another suitable remedy.

8. Our Content & Use of AI

Chronicle Society is built around our passion for history, research and storytelling.

We aim to work with local historians, researchers, writers, photographers and artists wherever possible. We believe that working with real people who have knowledge, experience and creative skills helps make each issue more interesting and meaningful while supporting independent creatives.

From time to time, we may also use AI-assisted tools when creating certain images, illustrations or elements of written content.

Where AI is used, it forms part of our creative process and is not intended to replace the research, editorial work or human contributions behind Chronicle Society.

We aim to be transparent about our use of AI and will continue to prioritise original research, historical sources and contributions from real people wherever possible.

Historical subjects can involve differing interpretations, sources and accounts. We carefully research the stories we publish, but historical information can sometimes be disputed, incomplete or subject to differing scholarly interpretations.

Our publications are created for educational and entertainment purposes and are not intended to be definitive academic works.

9. Content and Issue Availability

We put considerable time and research into every Chronicle Society issue.

The subject, stories, illustrations and other contents of an issue may occasionally change from what was originally planned. This may be necessary due to research findings, sourcing, availability, printing requirements or circumstances outside our control.

We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to future issues where necessary while maintaining the overall purpose and quality of the Chronicle Society subscription.

10. Copyright

All Chronicle Society content, including written stories, articles, photographs, illustrations, designs, branding and other original material, belongs to Chronicle Society or the respective rights holders.

Purchased issues are intended for personal use and enjoyment.

You must not reproduce, copy, distribute, publish online, resell or commercially exploit Chronicle Society content without our prior written permission.

This does not affect any rights you may have under applicable copyright law.

11. Changes to the Subscription

We may occasionally make reasonable changes to the way Chronicle Society operates, including our packaging, delivery arrangements, subscription options or the format of future issues.

Where a significant change affects an existing subscription, we will endeavour to provide appropriate notice where required.

We reserve the right to update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to our service, legal requirements or the way Chronicle Society operates.

The latest version of this policy will be published on our website.
